Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! Smaller items like cutting boards, coasters, wine racks, and holders can be shipped. Larger pieces like cedar boxes require local pickup or delivery. Not sure if your item qualifies? Just ask.

  • I work with a variety of hardwoods including walnut, maple, cherry, and oak. Have something specific in mind? Ask and I'll let you know what's possible.

  • Hand wash only, never the dishwasher. Dry it standing upright so both sides dry evenly. Oil it with food grade mineral oil once a month, or whenever it starts to look dry. End grain boards absorb oil from the top, so give it a generous coat and let it soak in. A little maintenance goes a long way on a board built to last generations.

  • I do not do custom orders at this time.

  • Item descriptionEnd grain boards are built differently. The wood is cut to expose the ends of the fibers, which makes them gentler on knife edges, more resistant to scarring, and far more durable than standard face grain boards. The surface is self-healing, the construction resists warping and cracking, and when they eventually show wear, a light sand and fresh mineral oil brings them back to life. A well-made end grain board isn't something you replace. It's something you pass down.

  • Item descriptionEnd grain exposes the ends of the wood fibers, giving you a self-healing surface that's easier on knives. Edge grain shows the long face of the fibers, which is lighter, more affordable, and still a great daily driver. Both are quality options. End grain is the premium choice for serious cooks or anyone who wants a board that lasts decades.

  • Usually yes. A light sanding followed by a fresh application of mineral oil will bring most boards back to life. If you have a Paul Daves board that needs some love, reach out and we can talk through options.
